About the Gentle Project

What is The Gentle Project?

2.3 earths.

If everyone on earth lived like I currently live we would need 2.3 earths.

I always thought I was pretty environmentally conscious because I didn’t throw my trash out of the car window, I usually recycled, and I didn’t drive a Hummer. Needless to stay, I had set the bar pretty low for myself.

If you’d like to read more about why I decided to start The Gentle project, you can read the story here. Otherwise, here’s the Coles Notes version of what The Gentle Project is:

Each month I will develop a new way in which I can be gentler either to the earth, those around me, or to myself. At the beginning of each month I will share what my “Gentle Project” will be, and how I am planning to stick with it. I will do my best to share what I learn with you and to be honest about how committed I’ve been. My goal will be to build upon each month, and not ditch what I learned the month before. Anyone is welcome to participate with me at anytime.

Each month I will also retake the ecological footprint quiz to see if I can move my “overshoot day” (and perhaps also adjust the number of earths I use). If you would like to find out your own ecological footprint take the quiz here.

Here is what has happened so far:

January: Gentle Waste

February: Gentle Eating

March: Gentle Cleaning
